New system to help Geary County Schools USD 475 increase efficiency, monitor student progress

Geary County Schools USD 475 in Kansas selected the Student Management Suite from Skyward, an industry leading K-12 school administrative software provider, to improve the management and analysis of student data throughout the district. Geary County Schools, which serve approximately 8,000 students, will now be able to integrate the student suite with its Skyward School Business Suite, allowing for a single, streamlined database solution.

The district selected the Skyward Student Management Suite to track and analyze student progress and information. With Skyward, the district will benefit from a comprehensive web-based system that integrates attendance, grading, scheduling, food service, discipline and demographic information in one centralized system to minimize data entry and ensure accuracy. The software simplifies administrative functions and reporting while facilitating school-to-home communication and staff collaboration.

Janet Christian, executive coordinator of finance for Geary County Schools, cited the system’s user friendliness, thoughtful user interface and Skyward customer support as three main reasons the district switched to Skyward as its student information system vendor. Christian explained that the efficiency of Skyward software will help the district save time and money.

“With our previous SIS vendor, we expended many hours reviewing and modifying student data for state reporting, which was truly exhausting considering our district serves thousands of students,” she said. “With Skyward reporting features, we’ll have accurate data that can be extracted quickly and efficiently on a moment’s notice. We’re happy that we can finally receive the customer service, attention and support on the student side that we’ve experienced for many years on the school business side.”

The district began its search for a new SIS vendor in September 2012, and after an onsite demonstration, extensive follow-ups and several visits with Skyward customers in Kansas, Skyward was the clear choice for the district. The cost and time savings Skyward offered the district, as well as the streamlined integration between the student and business suites impressed the superintendent and school board. Geary County Schools will begin implementation of the Skyward Student Management Suite and facilitate staff training in July 2013.

The Skyward Student Management Suite helps empower administrators, teachers and parents with the information they need to make informed decisions and be effective educational leaders.
