Forever Cheese Expands Ricotta Recall

Forever Cheese Inc. expanded the food recall of all Marte brand Ricotta Salata Frescolina cheese, an Italian product, over possible listeria contamination.

The FDA reports that the extended recall now includes all lots and production codes of the cheese, which was sold in supermarkets and through wholesale sellers from September to August 2012. The product is linked to 15 cases of listeria reported across 12 states.

Listeria can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems, the frail, elderly, pregnant women, and children.  It also causes miscarriages and stillbirths.

Symptoms include vomiting, headache, and high fever, nausea, and stomach cramps.
