Meeting Debates Duration of Propecia Side Effects

The persistence of the adverse sexual side effects of Propecia was a major topic of discussion at the recent World Meeting on Sexual Medicine.

Specialists and researchers are divided on whether the negative side effects associated with the hair-loss drug persisted or subsided after stopping the medication, according to MedPage Today.

Finasteride, marketed as Propecia for hair loss and Proscar for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), has been in the news ever since the adverse sexual side effects were discovered.

Changes were proposed in the drug label by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last year after reports of libido disorders and poor semen quality in users of the drug. Other adverse side effects include:

• Sexual dysfunction 
• Erectile dysfunction 
• Male Infertility 
• Breast enlargement and even breast cancer in men
