Stag Bakeries launches new West Coast brand
Stag Bakeries, the Stornoway-based family-owned bakery, has announced the launch of a new sub-brand to be known as West Coast. Whilst Stag Bakeries is built on heritage and provenance, West Coast will bring a contemporary twist and provide a point of difference. The new brand will allow the Hebridean bakery the opportunity to utilise flavours, ingredients and recipes that perhaps have a more international and modern influence and that wouldn’t necessarily ‘fit’ within the Stag stable.
The first products to be launched under the West Coast brand is a range of ‘Sweet Straws’. There are four straws in the range, each inspired by a different fruit base:
Apple & Cinnamon – a classic combination of a delicately spiced orchard fruit
Blackberry & Basil – a marriage made in berry heaven thanks to the delicate addition of basil
Raspberry & Chocolate – with a generous amount of raspberry pieces and distinct chocolate aroma
Sour Cherry & Vanilla – the sourness of the cherries perfectly complemented with sweet vanilla
The light, crunchy, buttery hand-baked straws are a sweet-twist on traditional savoury straws. They can be enjoyed with yogurt, ice cream or as an alternative to a traditional biscuit.
Charlie Macdonald, owner of Stag Bakeries said “The name West Coast was chosen as a reference to our home on the West Coast of Scotland. West Coast will provide us with the flexibility to launch products that are completely different to our Stag brand. The opportunities are endless in terms of innovative product development and contemporary packaging. This is an exciting time and we hope that the Sweet Straws will be well received. The only cross-over with Stag will be that both brands are committed to providing an exceptional quality bakery range.”
The new Sweet Straws will be launched in January and be available to independent retailers from a selection of wholesalers and distributors. The straws are suitable for vegetarians and are packed into vibrant packaging. RRP £2.30 for the 80g box.
As well as the ambient range of sweet and savoury biscuits, Stag Bakeries is a traditional island bakery that also supplies over 200 freshly baked products to the local market.
