Sports Leaders UK is delighted to announce that one of its local Outreach Centres, Make a Difference, has been recognised for its positive action and volunteering work, when this week it received the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award. Make a Difference is a Milton Keynes based project that inspires young people to improve their lives and the lives of others through positive action and volunteering. The community focused organisation has also worked to improve youth offending services, has set up a volunteer led disabled youth club and helped improve local sports, arts and heritage services for the community. Make a Difference recently became a Sports Leaders UK Outreach Centre and began running its nationally recognised qualifications in August 2010, with the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. Commenting on the Big Society Award, the Prime Minister, David Cameron said: “There are some amazing projects and remarkable voluntary work going on in towns and cities up and down the country, by all kinds of organisations from large enterprises to tiny grassroots schemes and inspirational individuals.” Chief Executive of Sports Leaders UK, Linda Plowright said: “I would like to congratulate all of the young people who have volunteered and made a positive difference to the local community, and particularly to the many Sports Leaders who have worked tirelessly to contribute to sports leadership and grassroots sport in Milton Keynes.” Notes to editors Sports Leaders UK is a national charity delivering sports leadership awards and qualifications to 200,000 people a year, through 4,000 schools, colleges, local authorities, prisons and young offender units.
