Swebus no longer accepting cash onboard

As of the first of September, it will no longer be possible to pay by cash onboard Swebus buses. The change has been implemented to reduce the risk of robbery.

At present, only about one percent of Swebus’s ticket sales are paid in cash onboard the bus.

“Like many other transportation companies, we have chosen to eliminate all cash handling to protect our drivers from becoming victims of robbery,” says Ingvar Ryggesjö, press officer for Swebus. “We have recently expanded the number of sales channels, such as options to buy tickets by mobile phone or at Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven. We hope our customers will still find it easy to buy a Swebus ticket even after they can no longer pay onboard in cash.”

After onboard cash payment is eliminated, customers can buy tickets at the following places:

- Online via www.swebus.se
- By mobile phone
- At more than 500 Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven stores
- By phone on 0771-218 218
- At Swebus’s own stores in Göteborg, Stockholm, Jönköping and Oslo
- At about 80 other sales agents in Sweden
- Onboard the bus by debit card

Customers can still pay cash in all retail stores. Swebus is also extending opening hours for sales by phone to 22:00 for the entire month of September.
