Sweco commissioned for Paris’s major Metro extension
Sweco has been commissioned by Société du Grand Paris for overall project management and detailed civil design for the construction of a new Metro line in Paris, part of the largest metro investment in Europe today. With an order value of approximately EUR 17 million, this is one of Sweco’s largest assignments to date.

Sweco has been commissioned for overall project management and detailed civil design of Line 17, with five new stations. The 20-kilometre metro line will link the Le Bourget and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airports and run north from the area of Saint-Denis to Le Mesnil Amelot.

The entire expansion of the Paris Metro involves approximately 200 kilometres of new underground metro lines and 68 new stations. The investment is expected to result in a significant increase in Metro commuters while also improving current traffic problems and air quality. Focus is on creating new Metro connections between the city’s densely populated surrounding areas and on making commuting more efficient. The daily travel time is expected to decrease by an average of seven minutes per traveller.
Sweco’s work on the assignment will begin in May 2016. The new line is scheduled to open to passengers in 2024. The assignment will be carried out in a consortium, led by Sweco Belgium.
Sweco is currently also commissioned in the ongoing expansion of the Metro lines in Helsinki, Brussels, Stockholm and Amsterdam.
