The demand for battery chemicals is growing globally along with the increased use of electric vehicles. Sweco has been commissioned by Terrafame to design a new production plant in Sotkamo, Finland.

“Terrafame is a long-term partner and we are happy to continue our cooperation. The plant will produce high quality battery chemicals for electric vehicles and ultimately contribute to more sustainable transportation,” advises Erik Skogström, Managing Director of Sweco Industry.

The design phase began in October and the construction of the plant will commence in early 2019. Sweco will be involved in the project for more than two years and 100 Sweco experts will be involved during the peak of the design phase.

“Terrafame has developed a technology to produce high quality battery chemicals with low carbon footprint. As an expert of sustainable development in industry, Sweco is the natural partner to design and support the construction of the battery chemicals plant,” advises Joni Lukkaroinen, CEO of Terrafame.
