TeliaSonera is delighted to prolong the support to SSE Riga by donating SEK 1,250,000 (approx EUR 135.000) to the school for the academic year 2014/2015. The cooperation between TeliaSonera and SSE Riga was established ten years ago when the TeliaSonera Institute (TSI) at SSE Riga was founded through a donation by TeliaSonera.

This year’s TeliaSonera donation is announced today at a ceremony at SSE Riga in the presence of His Majesty the King of Sweden in connection to the Swedish state visit to Latvia.

“TeliaSonera is one of the largest investors in the Baltic countries, and we consider ourselves to be an integral part of this region. The Baltic countries are all part of our home market and crucial to our present and future business. Our co-operation with SSE Riga is a manifestation of our long-term commitment to the region and to the Baltic communications sector”, says Kennet Rådne, SVP and Head of Mobility Baltics, TeliaSonera.

In January 2004 TeliaSonera endowed the TeliaSonera Professorship at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) and at the same time the TeliaSonera Institute at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (TSI) was founded. The Institute is a think tank which aims to promote and undertake high quality policy-oriented research in the fields of entrepreneurship, telecom and information technology. Furthermore, the Institute should promote entrepreneurship in Latvia.

Annual events, such as the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor for Latvia and the TeliaSonera Business Day, together with reports produced at the Institute have highlighted the potential of entrepreneurship and telecom when it comes to the economic development of Latvia and the Baltic neighbours Estonia and Lithuania.

“During the 10 years of generous support from TeliaSonera, the TeliaSonera Institute at SSE Riga has developed into an important catalyst when it comes to fostering a debate on entrepreneurship and telecom. Academically, the TeliaSonera Institute has put Latvia on the map in terms of entrepreneurship research”, says Anders Paalzow, Rector at SSE Riga.
