BT mass calling system sets new European records

BT mass calling system sets new European records In the early fall, the Teligent delivered BT RIDE platform for mass calling and televoting set two new European records. On 6th August 2004 the platform terminated over 153,000 televotes in a single minute during the UK final of Big Brother. During this minute it successfully terminated an astonishing 2,750 calls in one single second. The first record with 153,153 terminated calls in one minute beats the previous records by over 12,000 answered calls answered for a single minute (see http://www.agile-media.co.uk/televote.htm). The second record with 2,750 premium rate calls answered within one single second is even more impressing considering that it is equivalent to almost 10 million calls per hour. The BT RIDE platform is an important installation for Teligent within the very interesting area of mass calling and interactive media, i.e. large volumes of simultaneous telephone calls generated by e.g. television shows and competitions. BT makes use of the Teligent geographically distributed service concept for offloading its network and for providing high intensive call services such as televoting in conjunction with popular television programmes, for example game shows, entertainment, sports, news polling and reality TV shows such as Big Brother and Pop Idol. - Interactive telephony with mass calling and televoting is recognised as important and growing revenue opportunity for operators globally. Of course, it is encouraging for Teligent to have such a great and important installation by a globally renowned operator as BT, says Ulf Lindstén, President and CEO of Teligent. We have seen a continued growing interest in this segment. We feel convinced that the business success we have with BT and recently with additional tier 1 operators globally will have a continued momentum going forward based on the high interest of these services.
