AUSTIN, TX — The Propane Council of Texas (ProCOT) promoted cleaner-burning propane autogas technology at the Texas Municipal League Annual Conference and Exposition in Austin, October 9-11, 2013 as part of its Propane Autogas: Fueling Texas public education campaign.  The conference is one of the largest gatherings of local government leaders in the nation with over 3,000 city leaders from all over the state.

“By attending the Texas Municipal League Annual Conference, we spoke with many city leaders on the importance of going green with propane,” says Jackie Mason, Education & Marketing Director for the
Propane Council of Texas. “Propane autogas is a great option for Texas municipal vehicles, because it saves on fuel costs, it significantly reduces greenhouse-gas emissions, and it’s widely available throughout the state. Texas is home to more than 700 propane autogas retail fuel outlets and the world’s largest propane storage.”

American-made autogas is ideal for powering municipal fleet vehicles, including city shuttles, patrol cars, street sweepers, and public works trucks. Cities are not only looking to the propane for their fleet vehicle needs, but also turning to propane commercial mowers to help keep their parks beautifully maintained. Landscapers not only report reduced fuel costs, but also significant savings on mower maintenance.

“EPA estimates that over 17 million gallons of gasoline are spilled each year while filling lawn equipment,” says Mason. “Cities are not just reducing emissions by using the cleaner-burning fuel, but with propane’s closed loop refueling, they are diminishing the pollution of groundwater and soil in their parks.”

Propane Autogas: Fueling Texas is a public awareness campaign that educates Texans about the benefits of running fleet vehicles and equipment on clean-burning, domestically produced propane autogas. The campaign features a series of statewide autogas presentations and road shows to provide fleet operators, drivers and community members a hands-on experience with clean autogas technology.
