TRU Simulation + Training to Deliver Boeing 737NG Flight Simulation Training Devices to Copa Airlines

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. Nov. 12, 2014 – TRU Simulation + Training (TRU), a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, has signed an agreement with Copa Airlines to provide a Boeing 737NG Full Flight Simulator (FFS) plus two cockpit procedures trainers, which will be used to fulfill pilot training requirements. TRU Simulation + Training will install the training devices at the Copa Training Center in Panama City during the first half of 2015.

The Boeing 737NG FFS features TRU Simulation + Training’s visual display system with an electric motion system from Moog®. This new simulator will showcase enhanced functionality, such as iPad® capabilities within the Instructor Operating Station. Along with the Boeing 737NG FFS, two non-virtual cockpit procedures trainers will be provided, delivering additional cost-effective, fixed-base flight training.

“After meeting many of Copa Airlines’ pilot training needs with 737NG Full Flight Simulators, a 737NG FFT X™-U, an Ascent XJ Trainer™ and two 737 flat panel trainers, the addition of our new Boeing 737NG FFS, plus two cockpit procedures trainers, will provide the airline with a comprehensive training suite,” said George Karam, TRU Simulation + Training vice president and general manager, Air Transport Simulation. “This is another example of how we apply innovative TRU Simulation + Training technology to deliver customized training solutions to operators around the world.”

With the installation of TRU Simulation + Training’s complete training suite, Copa Airlines’ training center will offer its Boeing 737 pilots programs from initial training to type ratings and recurrent training.

“Copa Airlines has benefited from the high-fidelity training products and support provided by members of the TRU Simulation + Training team for approximately eight years,” said Captain Pedro Herrera, Training Senior Manager.  “This relationship has enabled our airline to provide cost-effective and robust pilot training programs that meet the needs of our flight operations team. The end result is well-prepared pilots who provide a top-notch, reliable flight experience to our customers.”

TRU Simulation + Training was formed in April out of three legacy companies – Mechtronix Inc. and OPINICUS Corporation that were acquired by Textron late last year, and a portion of the former AAI Logistics & Technical Services. In July, the company announced the acquisition of ProFlight, an FAA-approved Part 142 training center specializing in Cessna Citation CJ and Conquest Series training.

Copa Airlines and Copa Airlines Colombia, subsidiaries of Copa Holdings, are leading Latin American providers of passengers and cargo services. The airlines offer service to 69 destinations in 30 countries in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean.  During Copa Airlines’ more than 65 years of uninterrupted operations, it has transformed the Hub of the Americas in Panama into the leading hub on the continent. Copa, a member of the Star Alliance, operates one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the industry, and has an on-time performance of almost 90 percent, on par with the major airlines worldwide.
