The ride of a lifetime – and all for a good cause!
Twelve intrepid challengers have just returned from their big adventure in Jordan after completing the BHS Bedouin Riding Challenge 2011.
The Bedouin Challenge took riders approximately 200km across Wadi Rum, one of the most beautiful areas of Jordan. Riding through massive rock canyons and over silky sand dunes, dining under the desert stars and sleeping in Bedouin tents, it was truly the challenge of a lifetime!
For some it was the first chance to ride an Arabian horse, but all adapted well to riding Bedouin style across the desert in scorching temperatures. Their efforts were well rewarded as together they raised £7,000 for BHS Welfare.
Robin Finlay from Herefordshire says: “An experience like no other. Horses to fall in love with, scenery that amazes, tough times to conquer and friends that will never be forgotten. Memories too many to put into one sentence and a lifetime of stories to be told. Would I do it again ?.... the next trip is planned!'”
Amanda Watson the BHS Representative on the trip commented: “This was the most astonishing week of my life spent in the company of the warmest, most generous hosts covering country that is indescribably beautiful. If you are ever given the opportunity to take part, you simply have to go.”
The British Horse Society Riding Challenges were first launched in 2000 to assist funding the Society’s welfare work and to provide education and advice in the campaign to prevent cases of neglect.
The BHS Bedouin Riding Challenge will take place again soon and there are still places on this year’s other challenge rides across the globe – a riding challenge not to be missed and never to be forgotten.
This year’s Bedouin challengers were: Lyndsay Black, Robin Finlay, Danielle Gibson, Ruth Greenaway, Tammy King, Charlotte Lewis, Charlotte Ridley, Catherine Riggall , Carol Rogerson , Jan Tucker and Anne Tullet accompanied by BHS Development Officer for the South, Amanda Watson.
