New JORVIK trailer hails the return of the Vikings

A new video hailing the return of the Vikings premièred at 12 noon on Monday 21 2016, as JORVIK Viking Centre prepares to re-open on 8 April 2017.

The video introduces the new era that visitors will experience within the newly re-imagined attraction.  Following the fall of Eric Bloodaxe in 954AD, the capital of Viking Britain experienced a resurgence in popularity, with new buildings erected using planks rather than wattle and daub, and traders from around the world coming to Jorvik, an important centre of commerce and trade.

“2017 is set to be the Year of the Viking in York, with a newly invigorated JORVIK Viking Festival during February half term and the re-opening of the world-famous attraction in time for Easter – our trailer gives a sense of the epic stories we will tell about this remarkable period of history,” comments director of attractions for York Archaeological Trust, Sarah Maltby.  “We receive calls and questions every day from people wanting to know when JORVIK will re-open, and so now, we’re building a sense of anticipation for the return of the Vikings in April.”

Indeed, visitors have already been reserving tickets for both the JORVIK Viking Festival, and the first tickets for the new JORVIK Viking Centre.

The video can be viewed online at www.returnofthevikings.co.uk from 12 noon GMT on Monday 21 November 2016.
