NCC Discusses Continuing Competency at NANN

NCC President, Robin L. Bissinger, PhD, APRN, NNP-BC, FAAN, presented "NCC Certification: Understanding Continuing Competency" at NANN's 29th Annual Educational Conference.

The presentation discusses the transformation of health care and changes in certification that have been impacting nursing for over a decade. Including highlights from the 1999 IOM Report: To Err is Human, outcomes from the 2005 NCSBN Continued Competence Advisory Panel and NCC's proactive response.

Competency and Health Care ReformNCC responded by developing a program that would:• Validate knowledge competencies related to the certification that is consistent with the current educational curriculum, national standards of practice and the current practice• Demonstrate maintenance of knowledge competencies over time.
