InCar®plus delivers 40 innovative automotive solutions — the largest independent development project undertaken by a supplier

APRIL 21, 2015 / DETROIT — ThyssenKrupp introduces its InCar®plus project to North American audiences at the SAE International 2015 World Congress at the Cobo Center April 21-23 in Detroit.

With more than 40 innovations focused on increasing the efficiency of cars in the future, ThyssenKrupp’s engineers have developed new products in the areas of powertrain, chassis and steering, as well as automotive body. ThyssenKrupp’s InCar®plus presents solutions and components for automotive manufacturers with weight savings of up to 60 percent and cost reductions of up to 10 percent. InCar®plus technologies can also make a significant contribution to climate protection, allowing manufacturers to reduce carbon dioxide emissions up to eight grams per 0.6 mile.

“ThyssenKrupp is a long-term partner to the automotive industry and is developing products and services to meet the demand for ‘more’ in a ‘better’ way,” says Claudius Rath, Head of the InCar®plus project. “ThyssenKrupp’s business with the auto industry accounts for a quarter of our sales, almost ten billion euros and the mobility sector is set for long term growth.”

The focus of InCar®plus is on green solutions for energy efficiency, electro mobility and weight reduction. Whether its sustainability, weight, cost, or performance – each InCar®plus innovation is superior to the current state of the art in at least one of these categories.

“We see it as our role to bolster innovation across industrial segments,” says Patrick Bass, CEO of ThyssenKrupp North America. “As a diverse industrial group with its Components Technology, Industrial Solutions, Materials Services and Elevator Technology businesses, ThyssenKrupp has a unique capability to drive innovation across a wide spectrum. Our InCar®plus solutions, which can be integrated quickly into automotive production, gives our customers an important edge in terms of time and cost.”

InCar®plus was developed with insight from the business areas of Steel Europe, one of the world’s leading material partners to auto manufacturers; Components Technology, a leading automotive component supplier; and Industrial Solutions, with its System Engineering business unit one of the market leaders for engine and transmission assembly. A total of 100 engineers from eight companies at 15 locations worked on the InCar®plus project.

InCar®plus enables original equipment manufacturers to understand from the outset how the use of lighter materials and an improved powertrain will reduce the carbon footprint of their vehicles.

InCar®plus will exhibit at booth 239 at the SAE International 2015 World Congress, which draws automobile industry executives and their teams each year. ThyssenKrupp introduced InCar®plus to European audiences in 2014. Following SAE, InCar®plus will travel to auto manufacturers across North America.
