Tikkurila has begun a collaboration with BoKlok, the housing concept developed by IKEA and Skanska. The collaboration has inspired Tikkurila and BoKlok to design a special exterior color card for BoKlok Finland. The card has four color schemes which will be matched with the location and environment of each building in the planning phase.

The color combinations are called Tammisaari, Vimmerby, Bergen and Inari.

"Villaesque Tammisaari is a playful combination of white and bright colors. The traditional color palette of Vimmerby is the choice for nature-loving urban dwellers. The darker shades of the Bergen scheme, on the other hand, bring out the idiom of modern architecture and are a perfect fit for both urban and naturalistic settings. The shades of gray in the Inari color scheme enliven cityscapes without being boring," says Marika Raike, Design Manager at Tikkurila.

"The well thought-out colors are part of the BoKlok design. I believe that this partnership will also facilitate our cooperation with municipalities, as we can now easily and simply show them what the BoKlok houses will look like from the outside. A harmonious and clearly defined color scheme will be of great help in the construction phase to have,” explains BoKlok Country Manager Susanna Sucksdorff. "Our cooperation with Tikkurila supports the BoKlok concept of excellent but affordable architecture and design. Design does not always mean going to great expense."

The facades of BoKlok housing will be painted with Tikkurila's water-borne Ultra Pro or Ultra Classic house paint. The wood-based prefabricated building elements are treated according to a certified process at the factory. The painting and color related expert services of Tikkurila are available to both the constructor and residents.

The first project where the new color card will be used is the Helsingin Peikonpuisto housing company in Siltamäki in Helsinki. The colors of the Peikonpuisto block will be selected from the Bergen color scheme. The buildings will be dark, accentuated with reddish brown or tawny.

The BoKlok concept was developed in collaboration by Skanska and IKEA in the mid 1990's.The concept involves providing affordable housing with carefully designed living space solutions in an area with great services nearby. In Finland, the concept includes a shared sauna and gardening plots.
