  • Leading waste management company, Willshee’s, buys its first DAF LF and CF Euro 6 models to improve its efficiency and environmental credentials
  • New DAF LF Euro 6 with skip-loader and DAF CF FAD with hook-loader
  • Willshee’s chose DAF for its support, dependability and customer service

The improved efficiency and environmental credentials of DAF’s Euro 6 models over  previous Euro 5 models was a critical factor in the decision for Willshee’s, the leading independently owned waste management company, to invest in a new DAF CF440 FAD (8x4) with a Reynolds Boughton hook-loader and a DAF LF 18t with Hyva skip-loader.

The two new DAF trucks are the first Euro 6 models on Willshee’s large fleet of vehicles and recycling equipment based at its waste recycling centre in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire and have been painted in a vivid green colour to match the fleet to service local commercial and domestic waste management duties.

Investing in the most efficient, industry-leading vehicles, equipment and recycling techniques is a priority for Willshee’s and it chose DAF trucks not only for the environmental credentials of the new Euro 6 range, but also because of its previous good experience of its customer service, durability and the excellent relationship it has enjoyed with its local DAF dealer, Imperial Commercials in Derby which was recently named the Repair & Maintenance Workshop of the Year at the 2014 Motor Transport Awards.

Dean Willshee, a director of the family-owned and run business commented: “We had no hesitation choosing a new Euro 6 model instead of a Euro 5 one as being as efficient and as environmentally friendly as possible is critical to the waste management industry and Willshee’s as, after 30 years in business, we want to continue our success by having industry-leading environmental credentials.”

The new DAF Euro 6 engines are more cost-effective to operate thanks to the latest, efficient PACCAR engines and are easily distinguished by their all-new exteriors plus new interiors which have been enhanced to maximise driver comfort and convenience. The new DAF LF has a choice of the 4.5-litre PX-5 and 6.7-litre PX-7), while the CF has a choice of three PACCAR engines, the 12.9-litre MX-13, 10.8-litre MX-11 or 6.7-litre PX-7.

The CF440 model chosen by Willshee’s has the new six-cylinder PACCAR MX-11 turbocharged diesel engine using modern common rail technology to produce 440 hp from 1,450 to 1,700 rpm with 2,100 Nm of torque available between 1,000 to 1,450 rpm. This is 180 kg lighter than the PACCAR MX-13 engine, meaning a larger payload.
