The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH) is to begin co-operation negotiations due to cuts in its state funding. The negotiations concern the entire personnel of FIOH, and the resulting measures may lead to as many as 200 redundancies.

The negotiations will begin on 31.8.2015 and will last for at least six weeks.

According to the new government programme, FIOH’s state funding will be cut by 5 million EUR in 2016. The earlier government discussion on spending limits, productivity cuts and the comprehensive reform of research institutes and research funding have all led FIOH to implement adaptation measures.

The total of these planned reductions for 2013-2017 are almost 15 million EUR, which means 40% less state funding for FIOH. The greatest cut of 7.8 million EUR will fall on 2016.

FIOH has already adjusted its operations in 2013 and 2014, with co-operation negotiations resulting in almost 60 redundancies and the closing down of the Lappeenranta regional office.

FIOH currently employs 680 people. The adaptation measures will aim to enable FIOH to continue to give its best support to the development of Finnish work life and well-being at work.
