More than £1,000 has been raised for charity by attendees at the seventh TRA sponsored tyre industry dinner.

The money, which was generated through a raffle with prizes including theatre tickets, luxury food hampers and magnums of champagne, will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, helping to improve the lives of those affected by cancer.

“It was a great effort to raise £1,020 for Macmillan and I’d like to personally thank all those TRA members who contributed some great prizes and also those who so generously bought raffle tickets,” comments Mike Wilson, president, TRA.

More than 100 people from the tyre industry attended the dinner at the Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire which followed the launch of the TRA’s Responsible Retailer initiative earlier in the day.

As well as dancing to the sounds of Motown and enjoying live entertainment, the evening also included an awards presentation which saw Fraser Evans of tyre recycling business Fraser Evans & Sons presented with the TRA lifetime achievement award.

Before the evening’s dinner, the TRA launched its Responsible Retailer initiative, which has been designed specifically for tyre retailers. The programme, which is designed to help them manage their used tyre disposal in line with industry best practice guidelines and also help them promote these credentials to motorists, is supported by the Independent Garage Association (IGA) and endorsed by Motor Codes.

Notes

The Tyre Industry Federation Responsible Recycler Scheme is a uniquely successful initiative set up to ensure that all used tyres collected from any designated premises are re-used or recycled in ways which comply with UK and European statutory regulations. It is the largest voluntary tyre recovery programme inEurope.

Scheme members are subject to regular spot audit and are subject to the Scheme Charter. Used tyres collected, handled or reprocessed by scheme members are tracked throughout the disposal chain so delivering full traceability and accountability.
