UNYQ partners up with IKEA and Area Academy for the gaming community

UNYQ, a frontrunner in medical wearables, is teaming up with IKEA to present a one of a kind prototype that aims at making gaming equipment ergonomic, customized and coherent and interactive with interior design. UNYQ has worked closely together with educational e-sport company Area Academy to explore how home furnishing can change gaming and life around it – addressing appearance, ergonomics and mobility. The collaboration is unveiled today during
IKEA’s Democratic Design Days in Älmhult, Sweden.

There are around two billion gamers around the world, a group that is growing fast. For long, this group has been overlooked in terms of design, customization and accessibility. IKEA has engaged UNYQ to create a prototype that aims at making gaming equipment ergonomic, customized and last but not least, coherent and interactive with interior design. In short, a 3D printed chair for gamers. The prototype has taken only nine weeks to design and execute, showing the vast potential of UNYQ’s design team as well as their means of production. The result of this collaboration will be available for a limited time starting in 2020.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for UNYQ. We have always been focused on making choice, design and customization available for as many people as possible. To be able to have this collaboration, which aims at both customizing equipment for gamers as well as making that design and innovation accessible to all through the IKEA concept is truly amazing”, says Eythor Bender, CEO of UNYQ.

Mr Bender continues: “Affordability, choice and accessibility have always been in the forefront for us when developing UNYQ to what it is today. To be able to work together with IKEA, a company that has democratized the world of interior design and truly brought together the concepts of design and affordability is very special for us – it is a mission that we share”.

UNYQ is a frontrunner in the medtech sector and is introducing the concept of mass customization to medical wearables such as 3D printed prosthetic components and scoliosis braces. UNYQ delivers a virtual orthopaedic service, designed to increase choice and comfort all through high-end 3D printing solutions where the individual is invited to participate in the design of their product. By offering digitization and 3D printing UNYQ creates a possibility to decrease the workload for care givers and a more streamlined production process.

“By teaming up with UNYQ, IKEA wishes to learn how you could utilise photometric and 3D-scanning in combination with 3D-printing to make it possible to personalise products for better ergonomics and a more individualised appearance. Area Academy has the expert knowledge of what it takes in terms of equipment to make a truly great gamer, and to have a greater gaming experience,” says Marcus Engman, Head of Design at IKEA Range & Supply.
