Statement after hearing with the investigating judge regarding the "wasselonne accident"
STATEMENT AFTER HEARING WITH THE INVESTIGATING JUDGE REGARDING THE "WASSELONNE ACCIDENT" Volvo Car Corporation has today been questioned by the investigating magistrate in Saverne, France, on what is known as the Wasselonne accident. Previously, the car's driver, the dealer in Strasbourg and Volvo Automobiles France has been questioned. The investigation magistrate decided today to include Volvo Car Corporation in the investigation of the accident. The aim of the investigation is to ultimately decide whether the case should go to trial or not. Volvo Car Corporation has been given an opportunity in the hearing to clarify its views on the technical investigation held in the case. According to Volvo Car Corporation's own investigation until today: No evidence has emerged in our investigation that the car involved in the accident had been impossible to brake. However, in the time available it has not been possible to complete all the technical investigations required on the case. An important condition to be met for the continued work on the investigation is that Volvo Car Corporation is given the full opportunity to examine the car involved in the accident. Volvo Car Corporation has decided, in order to fully clarify the situation, to contact all customers in France with Volvo 850 TDI cars like the one involved in the accident. We will ask the customers to let the dealers check these cars. This is done in order to avoid any unnecessary concern from our customers and to verify the quality of the update done in connection with the service campaign. Volvo Car Corporation was represented at the hearing by Sophie Louis. She is a qualified engineer with a master of sciences degree. She grew up and graduated in France and has been working at Volvo since 1996. She is a project leader for quality development within chassis engineering at Volvo Car Corporation. What happened is a tragedy for all parties involved. Our sympathies go first to the families, relations, friends and schoolmates of the children who died. We also understand that for the woman who was driving the car and her passenger what happened is very traumatic.
