Bronx, NY, May 6, 2014—Wave Hill, a public garden and cultural center overlooking the Hudson River and Palisades, is known as a serene oasis conducive to feelings of health and well-being. This summer, the garden welcomes the summer season with a free session of Hatha Yoga, inviting visitors to discover the restorative joys of outdoor wellness programs in one of New York City’s most stunning landscapes.

Led by Yoga for Bliss founder and director Neem Dewji and other qualified instructors, this session will be held outdoors; indoors in inclement weather. All levels welcome. Please bring your own mat. The June 7 yoga session has been scheduled to take advantage of free Saturday morning admission to the grounds, making this opportunity a truly affordable way to experience yoga outdoors.

Combine this late-morning session with a light lunch in The Café at Wave Hill and a leisurely stroll through the gardens, often called “one of the greatest living works of art.” Then plan to come often this summer—and year-round—to enjoy Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi and Meditation at Wave Hill.

Designed for beginners and experienced participants. Yoga and Tai Chi sessions are held indoors from November through April, and outdoors from May through October, weather permitting. Meditation sessions are held indoors.  Year-round, the cost of wellness sessions is $25/Wave Hill Member $15. Register in advance and save $2 per class!

About Wellness Programs at Wave HillTai Chi classes are beginner-level, and are taught by Irving Yee, a member of the William CC Chen Tai Chi School. He introduces students to the internal martial arts, and promotes awareness of its health benefits. Sessions are held on Saturday mornings.

Hatha Yoga Reduce stress, increase energy and bring strength and flexibility to your mind, body and spirit with a yoga practice. Classes are led by Yoga for Bliss director Neem Dewji and other certified instructors. Ms. Dewji is certified in Hatha and Therapeutic Yoga from The Yoga for Health Foundation, in Bedfordshire, England, and The Integral Yoga Institute in New York City. All levels welcome. Limited number of mats available. Sessions are held on Sunday mornings.

Sunset Yoga Sunset Yoga is led by Yoga for Bliss instructor Joanne Salomone. All levels welcome. Sessions are held outdoors only. Limited number of mats available. Sessions are held Wednesday evenings July 2 through August 6.

Mommy and Baby Yoga Designed for mothers, fathers or caregivers and babies eight weeks old to crawling, this yoga class brings families together for a gentle exercise session in a beautiful garden setting. Stretch, breathe and bond with your child while meeting other parents. Led by certified instructors from Yoga for Bliss. Limited number of mats available. Sessions are held Wednesdays in July.

Meditation Take a moment to release stress and reconnect with your inner self while practicing meditation. Each session includes instruction in simple techniques, followed by 20 to 30 minutes of meditation, led by Yoga for Bliss director Neem Dewji and other certified teachers. All levels welcome. Sessions are held Sunday mornings.

WAVE HILL HOURS  Open all year, Tuesday–Sunday and many major holidays: 9AM–5:30PM. Closes 4:30PM, Nov 1–Mar 14. 

ADMISSION   $8 adults, $4 students and senior 65+, $2 children 6-18. Free Tuesdays and Saturdays until noon. Free to members, children under 6. 

DIRECTIONS  Getting here is easy! Located only 30 minutes from midtown Manhattan, Wave Hill’s free shuttle van transports you to and from our front gate and Metro-North’s Riverdale station, the W. 242 St. stop on the #1 subway line, and to and from our free offsite parking lot.
