BAXI BACKS NORTHWARDS HOUSING ON CHARITY PROJECT

In a project led by Northwards Housing, the Manchester branch of Catch 22’s Youth Inclusion Programme (YIP) has itself been “rehoused” at 1 Cardale Walk in Harpurhey. The building, which was a former doctor’s surgery, had been vacant since 2000, “becoming a blight on the Jolly Miller estate” after falling into disrepair and suffering thousands of pounds worth of fire damage.

The YIP, originally based two doors away at 5 Cardale Walk, specialises in working with young people to tackle the threat of youth crime and anti-social behaviour in the northManchesterarea.

“Northwards Housing had looked at a number of ways of regenerating the building. However, when it came to light that the YIP had outgrown its premises, the decision to convert it into a spacious new home for the charity was unanimous!”, says Greig Lees, Northwards Housing’s Head of Regeneration. “The refurbishment of 1 Cardale Walk brings a long-term void property back into use and it allows the YIP to continue with, and build upon, the great work it carries out locally. We were delighted that Baxi was in a position to support this worthy cause.”
