Easi-Dec, the working at height safety specialist, has provided a roof top safety solution to an installation company who is carrying out maintenance work on a £6m Council housing project in Colchester.

DMD Installations, specialists in providing a complete roofline service to domestic, trade and commercial outlets, was appointed by Axis, the main contractor on the Colchester Borough Homes project, to carry out maintenance work on a housing development. The project, which is currently in its fourth year and due to be completed in March 2015, includes a combination of social housing and leasehold properties, all requiring both internal refurbishment and external maintenance work. DMD Installations was contracted to replace fascia, soffits and gutters on the 3,500 properties. The company opted to work with  Easi-Dec Roofline systems due to the safety and cost benefits this product provides.

“Using the Easi-Dec Roofline systems gives us independence and stops us relying on scaffolding companies” commented Peter Statham, Commercial Director at DMD Installations. “There are many benefits to working with Easi-Dec, it reduces the costs to the client and enables us to work in a safe and secure manner. The system allows us to be more competitive and there isn’t the hassle of leaving any scaffolding up once the work is completed.”

The development consists of a number of different sized properties, including bungalows and three storey homes. The  varying style of properties required different levels of roofline access. Scaffolding could have been used to complete the maintenance work however DMD Installations chose to work with the Easi-Dec roofline system as erecting scaffolding is time consuming and expensive. DMD Installations employees are trained and approved in the use of Easi-Dec products. The roofline system has been used throughout the whole duration of the project, keeping the installers and public safe.

The Easi-Dec Roofline system comprises one or more Easi-Dec platforms linked securely with the Catwalk to form a continuous fully-guarded platform. The 8 or 10 metre system can be erected in less than 30 minutes and the use of telescopic legs gives height adjustment in 30 mm increments making it easy to use on sloping ground. The platforms offer a safe stable work place combined with certified edge protection.

Using Easi-Dec’s Roofline System allows the freedom to carry out work at a moment’s notice without having to liaise with a third party company.  The system does not require any tools for assembly, making it quick and simple to construct.

Easi-Dec also offer free demonstrations of their products to ensure that the customer can get the most out of the equipment by knowing exactly how to erect the platform and gain access to the roof level safely. The demonstrations can be held at either the Easi-Dec premises, the premise of the customer, or on site. With each system sold there is free certified training for up to 8 people.
