Westerland Combines Traditional Appearance with Sustainable Performance

A recently built housing development in Burgess Hill, Mid Sussex, has incorporated Cembrit’s Westerland A+ rated slates into the design of eight contemporary family homes. The new properties have been constructed to the Code for Sustainable Homes to Level 3 standard with the A+ rated Westerland assisting with compliance.
Built by local developer Woodcock Homes the Billington Place properties incorporate the latest sustainable construction thinking into a striking modern appearance. To complement the look, 10,000 blue/black Cembrit Westerland fibre cement slates have been used on the imaginatively designed roofs. Each dwelling is protected by two monopitch roofs installed at different pitches reminiscent of modernist housing styles.
“Cembrit’s Westerland combine top quality appearance with BREEAM A+ rated performance,” Warren Dodds, Director Kaycee Roofing. “This combination ensures that Westerland were the perfect choice for this project where we needed to use sustainable construction materials without compromise looks or performance.”
Westerland slate is a good alternative to natural slate as it has an attractive riven surface and natural dressed edge giving it a natural, traditional appearance. Westerland is manufactured to the highest European standards and is lightweight, pre-holed, suitable for all types of project both public sector and private development. The slate is easy to handle and install, it is durable and offers an economic alternative to natural roofing materials.
An EPD (Environmental Product Decleration) issued by the IBU is available on request covering all Cembrit’s fibre cement slate brands.
