Cook enhances the firm’s global patent litigation capabilities

NEW YORK & LONDON (October 15, 2013)—WilmerHale is pleased to announce that Trevor Cook is expected to join the firm as a partner as of January 1, 2014 in its Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group in New York. Mr. Cook will concentrate his practice on intellectual property litigation internationally. He brings 35 years of experience in global patent litigation, particularly in Europe and Asia.

“I have found a new home in WilmerHale, which is regarded in Europe as a preeminent force in the U.S. IP litigation market,” said Mr. Cook. “I very much look forward to being a part of this group of talented professionals and helping to extend the firm’s presence in Europe and Asia.”

“Trevor is a highly-regarded practitioner who is uniquely positioned to strengthen our IP Litigation Practice Group as we look to expand that practice outside of the United States,” said Susan Murley, WilmerHale’s co-managing partner.

Mr. Cook joins WilmerHale from Bird & Bird LLP in London, where he was a partner in the Intellectual Property Group and co-head of the International Life Sciences Sector Group. He was for several years president of the UK Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), is Chairman of the British Copyright Council, and is on the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) List of Arbitrators. He is the only practitioner to earn the “star individual” ranking in the UK-wide Life Sciences: IP/Patent Litigation category in Chambers UK 2013 and was included among the top 20 lawyers overall and as the top-rated IP lawyer in The Chambers UK 100.

“Mr. Cook’s extraordinary skill and experience will be invaluable to our clients as intellectual property litigation increasingly takes on global dimensions,” noted Mark Selwyn, co-chair of WilmerHale’s IP Litigation Practice Group.

Mr. Cook is a prolific author, having written numerous articles and books during his career. His most recent include, A Users’ Guide to Patents (3rd edition - Bloomsbury 2011), International Intellectual Property Arbitration (Wolters Kluwer 2010), and EU Intellectual Property Law (Oxford University Press 2010). Mr. Cook earned his degree in chemistry from Southampton University and joined Bird & Bird in 1974.

The firm’s IP Litigation Practice Group features a premier litigation team backed by the academic and industry experience of more than 140 lawyers and technology specialists with scientific or technical degrees.
