Last night, a WiMP-user streamed song number 1 000 000 000 for the service. WiMP was recently launched in Germany, and focuses heavily on editorial content and locally relevant music. The song was played by a Norwegian user and was the young Norwegian artist Alexandra Joner and her new single Sunrise.

”This is a fun target for WiMP to reach, we’re growing very fast and all the more music is being listened to while the revenues continue to rise. The fact that stream number one billion was by a Norwegian user and artist reflects the fact that WiMP is bigger in Norway so far. Our goal is of course to continue to grow in all our other markets as well,” says Thor Martin Jensen, Global Editorial Manager for WiMP.

Sunrise climbed right into the Norwegian WiMP Top 20 the first week it was available and the song is now moving fast on the hitlist.

Yesterday, the interim report for owner company Aspiro for the first quarter of 2012 was published, where it was made clear that WiMP-revenues almost tripled compared to same quarter last year. ISP Canal Digital also communicated that 200,000 of their subscribers are now WiMP-users. In total, WiMP has over 350,000 users in four countries.
