A survey by Norstat conducted in Norway in December for Aspiro Music reveals the following results:

Music streaming as a category established

  • 42% of Norwegians now state they have access to a music streaming service, while six months earlier, 33% had tried such a service.
  • In the coming generation, numbers are even higher, as 75% under 30 already now has access to a music streaming service.
    • Males in urban areas lead the development. In the capital city of Oslo, 54% have access to a music streaming service.
    • In total, 51 % of men have access to a music streaming service, while the corresponding number for women is 33%.

Note that the question “has access to” is comparable to access to Internet or TV and does not necessarily transfer to number of users or subscribers.

Payment model gets foothold

1 of 4 who has access to a music streaming service now uses a paid service. In the age group under 30, the number is even higher compared to older user groups.

”In Aspiro Music, we are happy that music streaming is becoming all the more established, while at the same time we are seeing more and more consumers willing to pay for a complete service. Our position remains that a pure payment model is the way to go to ensure a sustainable music industry. We also see that our editorial profile focusing on local music and new ways of inspiring you to discover music is well received among our users,” says Per Einar Dybvik, CEO of Aspiro Music.

The survey is based on a representative sample of one thousand Norwegians and is conducted in December 2010 by market research company Norstat on behalf of Aspiro Music.
