The Jokeri Light Rail alliance has been established – the planning of construction is about to start
YIT CORPORATION Press release, November 30, 2017, at 10:45 a.m.
The construction of the Jokeri Light Rail has reached another important milestone: the project partners have signed an alliance contract on the development stage. This starts the development stage that will last approximately one year and involve the specification of the light rail construction schedule and costs.
The alliance contract for the development stage was signed by the client organisation—consisting of the cities of Helsinki and Espoo—the design coalition between Sito, Ramboll and VR Track and the contractor coalition between VR Track and YIT.
The creation of the Jokeri Light Rail alliance started in the spring with competitive tendering for the design coalition. The contractor coalition was selected in October. The alliance model engages all parties in open co-operation, with the aim of achieving benefits related to quality, finances and schedule.
The alliance contract for the development stage covers, for example, the alliance organisation, task and cost division and management.
“Partnerships and proactive urban development are at the core of our strategy. This is why we find the Jokeri Light Rail project so inspiring and important. It is great to be able to contribute to the urban development of the Capital Region as part of this great team,” says Jarkko Salmenoja, Vice President at YIT.
The alliance is managed by the alliance steering group, which has representatives from all the contracting parties. The aim is to promote transparent decision making within the Jokeri Light Rail project, which is why all the steering group memos are available at the raidejokeri.info website. Board memos of the client organisation that coordinates the operations of the cities are also published on the website.
The aims of the current development stage include preparing an implementation plan that covers both the schedule and costs of the construction project. The plan is to sign the implementation contract and start constructing the light railway in about one year.
The Jokeri Light Rail is a fast light railway connection between Itäkeskus in Helsinki and Keilaniemi in Espoo. The Jokeri Light Rail will make cross-city public transport more reliable and increase passenger comfort. It also opens up opportunities for new residential construction along a fast light railway. The railway will replace trunk line 550, which is currently the bus line with the shortest headway time in Helsinki.
