Spiral of candles to mark All Saints Day and All Souls Day at York Minster

Part of York Minster Nights, until 2 November 2013

A spiral of candles is being created each evening in the Chapter House at York Minster, as visitors light a candle of remembrance for a lost loved one as a symbol of life and love, prayer and release, remembrance and hope, marking the feasts of All Saints and All Souls on 1 and 2 November.  The subtle yet stunning arrangement is part of York Minster Nights, four evenings when visitors can explore the cathedral after dark.  Other features of the event include live street art on specially-constructed hoardings in the Nave, a chance to see The Orb, a contemporary dome housing some of the world's most precious stained glass taken from York Minster's Great East Window, and a display of lanterns created by local school children, which have been hung on a huge metal ring beneath York Minster's central tower.
