AcadeMedia signs an agreement with Akademiska Hus for larger upper secondary school premises. This enables an increase of the number of school places in Uppsala and contributes to growth.

Uppsala is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Sweden with a population growth rate of around 2 percent per year. The classes of upper secondary school students are growing demographically and especially the urban areas have a substantial need to expand the capacity for new upper secondary school places. In Uppsala, AcadeMedia has been running the NTI school since many years, which now needs space to expand and admit more students. In addition, there is a plan to start a ProCivitas school in Uppsala.

-       We are very happy to have secured new premises in Uppsala. This will enable us to offer more more students places at our schools which in turn contributes to our growth strategy in the Upper Secondary School Segment. For ProCivitas, this is a unique opportunity to establish itself in Sweden’s fourth largest city and in an innovative campus environment with an attractive location, says Jens Eriksson Head of the Upper Secondary School Segment at AcadeMedia.

The building will now be rebuilt and adapted to upper secondary school education and will be ready in the autumn of 2020. The schools will have a capacity of approximately 860 students when they are fully expanded in 2024. This corresponds to approximately 450 more students than today.

The building is one of three on Polacksbacken which was built in early 1900s for Upplands infantry regiment. The building is located in the middle of one of Uppsala's most exciting development areas with good public transport. The refurbishment will create an efficient and dynamic environment which meets today's requirements on modern educational premises.
