September 2015 – Bemz, the company known for its fabulous range of covers for IKEA furniture, is proud to announce the launch of the second edition of the very successful Bemz Design Award – a competition bringing together students from major design schools from across Europe, including the UK, to encourage their future design careers as well as inspire upcoming generations of designers. Additionally, this year Bemz is announcing a new category within the Bemz Design Award – one open to the public – available for designers and aspiring designers across the globe.

In September 2013, Bemz launched the Bemz Design Award in design schools across France, Germany, Sweden and the UK. For most of these countries, this competition was the first European contest open to the textile designers of tomorrow. It was hugely successful with over 250 students taking part. As there was also significant interest from non-students, Bemz will invite the public to compete in an open, separate track in the 2016 edition, where anyone will be eligible to submit a textile design and compete to have their design produced by Bemz for sale to a worldwide market.

Due to the growing interest in self-expression and customer-led design, we’ve decided to open the Bemz Design Award up to everyone in this second edition. It is our ambition to be able to support these needs fully in the not too distant future, thanks to advances in digital printing technology,” says Lesley Pennington, Bemz founder and CEO.

Winning designs from the Bemz People’s Choice competition 2014.

One lucky student winner from each country and one from the public will see their design developed, produced and introduced into the ranks of the Bemz Designer Collection. The winners’ names will sit alongside long established and illustrious designers such as Marimekko and Designers Guild, like Stig Lindberg, whose seminal vision changed the face of textile design for future generations, and design-house Littlephant, a testament to contemporary design. The winning creations will be available for purchase around the world as sofa covers, chair covers and bed covers, alongside the hundreds of home textile products already available at Bemz.com. The ultimate winner of the Bemz Design Award 2016 will also win €1000 and an all expenses paid trip to Sweden’s capital city, Stockholm, a veritable hub of design inspiration, for the unveiling of the winning patterns during Stockholm Fashion Week in May 2016.

The theme of the second edition of the Bemz Design Award is focused on the Bemz core values: Scandinavian, high quality, design-led and distinctive. Entries are accepted from October 1, 2015 and the deadline for entry is December 14, 2015.
