Bioservo Technologies AB has received financing of SEK 5 million within the Horizon 2020 framework to develop the next generation of rehabilitative and assistive grip-enhancing gloves. By offering patients rehabilitation at home and in daily activities, they can become more independent, the rehabilitation process is made more efficient and care costs are reduced.

The next generation of Carbonhand, our grip-enhancing glove for medical use, will enable people with disabilities to carry out rehabilitation at home while receiving help with daily activities. There is a great need to streamline rehabilitation by treating impaired hand functions at an early stage and making recovery faster, more efficient, and more independent. The future glove will be combined with software that monitors patients’ progress, as well as a mobile application that gives healthcare providers access to patients’ results remotely.

The project, which runs over three years, is carried out in collaboration with Roessingh Research and Development (RRD) in the Netherlands, one of Europe's largest research centers for technical aids, rehabilitation technology and analysis of human movements. RRD will be responsible for requirements analysis and pilot testing with users.

“Within the project, we will develop a new generation of our medical device Carbonhand, a product that will enable us to open up new markets. Several clinical and pilot studies have shown great potential for the glove to be used as a therapeutic device.” says Petter Bäckgren, CEO of Bioservo, and continues, "Collected feedback has shown that there is a market need and a readiness for a glove with a therapeutic effect for targeted treatments in a more effective way."
