Press release For immediate release: 17 November 2009 Press contact: Katie Power, 020 7749 3720 kpower@breastcancercampaign.org Reminder – Newark breast check record attempt this Friday Women in Newark are being reminded to head down to Newark showground this Friday (20 November) to help set the record for the biggest breast check in the UK. Local fundraiser Hayley Gillingham, 36, is organising the breast self-examination event in support of Breast Cancer Campaign. She needs 2,000 women to attend in order to enter the event into the Guiness Book of Records and is urging all local women to take part. The event aims to educate women on how to check their breasts for signs and symptoms of breast cancer. A local GP from Long Bennington Medical Centre will conduct the self-examination and Hayley is hoping the event will raise over £10,000 to help Breast Cancer Campaign beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research. Attendees can also be expect a night of entertainment as Hayley has organised for the original band of the Rocky Horror Show to perform along with a comedian and a disco. Hayley said “Breast cancer is a cause that is very close to my heart and that’s why I’ve put so much effort into fundraising for Breast Cancer Campaign this year. Almost 46,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, but the earlier the disease is diagnosed the better the chance of survival. This is why the breast check is so important. Every woman should know how to check their breasts and hopefully the event will encourage more people to be breast aware in the future.” This event is just one of the many challenges Hayley has set herself throughout 2009. To date she has raised over £2,500 for the charity by taking part in several fundraising events, including a Wing Walk, a half marathon, playing in a professional polo match, flying with the RAF and completing the Three Peaks challenge. Tickets for the breast check are £5. For more information call Hayley on 07968 097 377 or visit www.bettablinds.co.uk Anyone can hold a fundraising event for Campaign, no matter how large or small.
