Mrs Joy Young, a resident of Bupa’s Queensmount Nursing and Residential Home, Queens Park West Drive, Bournemouth, Dorset, is looking forward to celebrating her 103rd birthday on Monday 21 December. The home will be hosting a party to celebrate the occasion. Joy was born in 1906 in Cape Town, moving to the UK in the early 1920s. In 1954 Joy relocated to Bournemouth where she has lived ever since. Joy was married with one son and now has two grand daughters and three great grand children. Joy’s biggest passion is music and she is an accomplished piano player, having taught many family members some of whom have since joined the National Orchestra and vocal bands. She has also performed for the BBC Live Service and enjoys playing in the home. A keen swimmer, Joy narrowly missed competing in the Olympics by a matter of seconds and has been a member of the Women’s League of Health and Beauty, now Extend, which provides recreational movement classes to music for older people and those less able of any age. Sheila Willis, home manager of Bupa’s Queensmount Nursing and Residential Home, says: “We are delighted to be sharing this special occasion with Joy. She is really looking forward to her party and we hope she has a lovely day.”
