Bestic patent granted in China

The State Intellectual Property Office in China informs that they have granted patent for the assistive eating device Bestic®. The patent protects Camanio Care on one of the world’s most essential markets for welfare technology.

According to the EU-project ”SILVER” (www.silverpcp.eu), around 0.2% of the adult population is being fed. This is equal to approximately 3 million individuals in China alone. The reasons behind eating difficulties are several. However, neurological diagnosis such as stroke, ALS, Parkinson and spinal cord lesion can cause eating difficulties. People suffering from eating difficulties are also more likely to develop undernutrition, which is a big problem in today’s society.

Granted patent gives higher protection

The patent that has been granted is the company’s main patent for Bestic. The term of the patent is ten years. Bestic is an assistive eating device which uses a spoon to lift the food from the plate up to the mouth.

-       With this patent protection set up in China we feel safe in our patent strategy where we prioritize the markets with the highest potential. We now have the possibility to meet the big interest regarding Bestic, both on the Chinese market and on the Asian market as a whole, says Catharina Borgenstierna, CEO Camanio Care AB.
