Digital therapeutic pets a success
The sales of digital therapeutic pets at Camanio Care have exceeded expectations. The 100 cats and dogs that had been planned for sale until the end of the year are already sold out. Now Camanio Care have to order more in order to deliver to all customers who have already placed orders. The value of the orders excluding taxes is circa 500 000 SEK up to today’s date.
– We have believed in the digital therapy pets from the beginning, but we didn’t count on this huge interest in them. Our estimates proved to underestimate the actual sales. This will lead to some deliveries being slightly delayed, but we are of course incredibly happy that they’ve been greeted so warmly by the care profession. We are extra happy that so many of the orders come in through hour web shop, says Linda Björk, head of sales at Camanio Care.
The digital therapeutic pets are available in three varieties. The cats are available in two colors, while the dog is available in one. Out of these, the red cat is the most popular. Sales are spread over municipalities all over Sweden and in part this is driven by extra funds allotted by the national government for investments in care technology. The first municipality to order digital therapeutic pets was Hörby. The largest number of pets are found in Linköping and Vimmerby, with 12 pets each.
– The use of pets in care has a proven effect, and when it’s not practical to have real pets the digital therapeutic pets create happiness and safety. They contribute to an increased wellbeing for, for example, persons with dementia. It is an investment that provides a positive effect for the users at a low cost, says Linda Björk.
Facts about the digital therapeutic pets
Digital therapeutic pets are available as cats or dogs. They are equipped with a realistic fur and sensors that react to touch and movement. They can move their heads and body. The cats come with the Vibrapurr technology, which gives a realistic experience of purring. The dogs are equipped with Barkback technology, that reacts to voices and respond by barking, and also with realistic and calming heartbeats.
