Hi there You may have seen the news in this weekend’s Express that Maitake mushrooms can shrink tumours and beat cancer. http://www.dailyexpress.co.uk/posts/view/143210 A study, published in British Journal of Urology , has concluded that a combination of professional strength D fraction Maitake mushroom and interferon alpha reduced bladder cancer cell growth by 75%. An earlier study performed with the same combination of Maitake mushroom and interferon alpha was also found to reduce cancer cell growth in prostate cancer. During the AUA (American Urological Association) Annual Meeting, held in April 2009 in Chicago, a combination therapy of Maitake D-fraction and Interferon was proposed as an alternative treatment for Bladder cancer. The study was conducted and presented by a research group at New York Medical College, Dept. of Urology, led by Dr. Sensuke Konno and published last month (October). Dr Sensuke Konno, head of Urology at the New York Medical College is pleased with the above result. "It is another example of Maitake D-fraction synergism" states Konno and continues, "Previous studies have also confirmed its synergy with chemotherapies, interferons, vitamins and other nutrients from herbs and mushrooms. It is very significant because the synergy not only enhances the efficacy of the treatment but also improves the quality of life of the patients by reducing the dose of conventional therapies significantly." A specific extract of Maitake Mushroom called Griffron professional Strength D Fraction was used in both of the studies and supplied by Maitake Inc of USA. Another product that works in a similar way to Maitake mushrooms is Moducare, the only clinically tested plant sterol/sterolin product that has been shown to balance and improve immune system functioning in response to and during a viral pandemic . Moducare works in two ways; firstly it improves the body’s ability to fight off viruses by immune modulation, and secondly it reduces inflammation.
