Cloud 12 expand presence within the film industry with new LA office

UK based aerial drone filming specialists Cloud 12 are expanding their presence across the pond, and are delighted to be opening up a new office in Los Angeles, America. This exciting move will allow the company to work closer in collaboration with the thriving film industry that is present in the area.

Cloud 12 has been at the forefront of drone aviation within the filming industry since it was first founded in 2012. With a background in production for film and television, founder Ben Keene saw a gap in the market for drone based filming, as his hobby for flying multi-rotor drones became harder to ignore. Combining -these interests, he teamed up with engineer Graham Tolhurst to create ‘Betty’, an octocopter capable of flying with large format cameras. Betty was the perfect tool needed for producing spectacular aerial shots, and was soon in high demand from directors and producers alike.

Ben Keene, Operations Director commented "We created octocopter ‘Betty’ and subsequently ‘Olivia’ its larger counterpart drone to ensure we can fly the best quality camera equipment to wherever the director desires. The long-range establishing shots that are created by the drones can add spectacular drama and beauty to any movie or video, and we’re sure it is a medium which will continue to be popular.”

The clear need for such a business combined with the superior equipment and knowledge by the operators has given Betty and Olivia many high profile jobs to date, providing work around the world including Africa, Asia and Europe. In 2012, Cloud 12 delivered drone aerial photography in the Philippines for the award winning music video ‘Not Giving In’ by Rudimental. More recently, they also delivered the aerial shots for gritty British action flick ‘London has Fallen’.

Coming soon, Cloud 12’s expertise can be seen in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Criminal’ featuring actor Kevin Costner. As the office in LA opens, Cloud 12 are excited to continue their work within the Hollywood Industry.

James Rodenhouse, in charge of the US operations for Cloud 12 said "This move into America is a very smart one, and I am excited to lead the company further within the world of filming and production that is available here. We look forward to working closely with directors, producers and studios to create breath-taking scenes for future blockbusters to come”.
