Hedgerley Village Prepares for Annual Bank Holiday Family Fun Day

This upcoming bank holiday, Monday 25thAugust, will see Hedgerley residents flock to the village green for a typically British fete filled with fun and entertainment.  The annual family fun day is set to attract a wide range of visitors this year, with a myriad of events for the whole family to enjoy.  The day will run from 12pm-5pm at Hedgerley village green, and feature a WW2 Spitfire aerobatic display, car boot sale and fun dog competition amongst other activities.

The village family fun day is held every year in Hedgerley as a fund raising event for the village church, St Mary’s, and other local charities.  This year the organisers are also making a donation to Help for Heroes, as an RAF pilot and Spitfire warplane will be making a special appearance and flying over the village green on the day.

The event is host to a number of fundraising fun activities, including a raffle, tombola and a car boot sale to start the day off.  Residents wanting to trade some of their old vintage items can purchase a pitch from the Londis in Hedgerley for £10, and set up their stalls from 10am.  From midday, the doors to the event will open and the fun will really begin with a beer tent, bouncy castle, ice cream stall, tea and cake tent and heaps of entertainment for all the family.

At 1pm, visitors to the Hedgerley Family Fun Day will be entertained with the Fun Dog Show, including prizes for the ‘Prettiest Bitch,’ ‘Most Handsome Dog,’ and ‘Waggiest Tail.’  For pet owners who fancy themselves at Crufts, there will also be a fun agility course for the most talented furry friends!

As if the abundance of activities, stalls, shows and children’s entertainment wasn’t enough, the family fun day will also include a sporting competition for local families. This is the perfect excuse for every member of the family to get involved and show the rest of the village their sporting skills and special talents.

A spokesperson for the event says, “The bank holiday family fun day is always an anticipated event in Hedgerley and the surrounding areas, and 2014 is set to be the best yet.  We may be a small English village but we certainly know how to throw an exciting event!”One of the most thrilling parts of the day will no doubt be the aerobatic display from an authentic Spitfire plane, used in the Second World War.  RAF pilot Dan Griffith will be performing an aerodynamic routine with the Spitfire and wowing children and adults alike on the ground.

The spokesperson added, “Of course, the most anticipated event is the Spitfire display, which we are all very excited for.  But there are plenty of other activities and things to do, so families can really make a day of it.”
