‘National Clean Out Your Computer Day’ – something everyone should take part in
Busy lifestyles mean one of the most used devices often get forgotten about; computers. But National Clean Out Your Computer Day is designed to highlight the need for computer owners to clean out their machines in order to keep them in tip top condition. And for Data Memory Systems, one of the leading suppliers of computer memory and accessories all over the US, it is one of the most important days of the year.
A spokesperson, from Data Memory Systems, said, “Over time, computers can become slow and unresponsive due to the myriad of files and programs that lay unused on computers and clog the memory. However as this occurs over a period of time, it is often unnoticeable until the machine becomes almost unusable.
“Although it is important to take care of computers every single day, this special day really is great for highlighting the need to take care of these vital pieces of technology that not only help us to work, but also provide enjoyment and entertainment. And we recommend that every computer user takes a bit of time to sort through files and programs and get rid of the things they don’t use or need.”
According to the experts at Data Memory Systems, two of the best ways to clear out clutter is to first look at all the programs installed and delete each one that isn’t needed or hasn’t been used for some time – particularly the larger programs. And secondly to delete or move old files which will never be opened again or do not need to be accessed regularly, to external drives.
“As our reliance on technology becomes more prominent, people often find their entire lives are on their PCs,” added the spokesperson. “Many people save new copies of updated documents instead of simply getting rid of old versions, and save all the usual photos and videos on their internal hard drives. But making some small changes like getting rid of old versions of documents and getting into the habit of saving large volumes of files onto external hard drives can really make a big difference to the way their computer runs.”
The annual day takes place on the second Monday in February and is designed to highlight the benefits of spending a bit of time tending to these pieces of tech that many take for granted. This year, it will take place on February 13th.
