RMR Recruitment Poised For Busy Quarter As Junior Doctors Threaten To Leave NHS
RMR Recruitment, one of the UK’s foremost locum agencies for doctors and nurses, is facing one of its busiest ever quarters, as a combination of strike action and the threat of junior doctors leaving the NHS puts greater demand than ever before on locum staff.
With strike action confirmed for three dates in December after 98% of junior doctors voted in favour of industrial action, locum doctors all over the country will be on standby. The British Medical Association has assured the nation that, despite routine services being affected, there will be enough consultants and locums to step in and keep emergency services at a consistent level, ensuring minimal risk to the public.
If the junior doctor contract issue is not quickly resolved, many junior doctors could walk out of the NHS altogether, with some of them considering becoming locum doctors to ensure their salary won’t take a hit. In all scenarios, it looks like the last quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016 will be some of the busiest that locum agencies will ever face.
Richard Rowley, Director of RMR Recruitment, says, “The ongoing dispute over junior doctor contracts is seeing locum agencies like ours called into action more frequently than ever before. We’ll be providing staff to support all NHS services during all of the strikes next month, should they go ahead – and we’ll also be supporting many NHS doctors who are considering leaving the service in search of a more secure salary.”
He adds, “This is a particularly challenging time for all health services in general, and of course, we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure hospitals don’t go without vital staff. Services will undoubtedly experience some kind of disruption, but hospitals have plenty of time to plan in advance, and locum agencies like RMR will be primed and ready to provide emergency staff if necessary.”
Should the junior doctor contract go unresolved, it’s estimated that seven in ten doctors will leave the NHS entirely – with many of them thought to be considering locum work. RMR Recruitment offers a quick registration service, and also a referral bonus for any doctors that refer a colleague – whether they’re a doctor, a nurse, a healthcare assistant, a clinical support worker or a primary care worker.
