The Box Studios Dance Teacher Champions Male Dance
One of The Box Studios’ highly qualified dance teachers, Chris Bradley, is working as an advocate for the male contemporary dance scene. The acclaimed professional dancer has had a noticeable positive effect on the number of boys attending dance classes at Arts1 School of Performance at The Box Studios, after working on numerous male dance projects across the country.
Chris Bradley has been working with Boys Dancing, a project lead by Warwick Arts Centre and Beingfrank Physical Theatre for several years. As part of this project he worked with young male dancers across the Midlands to create a dance film, which he choreographed and directed as part of The Quiet Man Suite series of dance on film.
James Grimsey, Creative Director at The Box Studios said, “We love the fact that many of our performing art teachers don’t exclusively just teach at Arts1 School of Performance; they are professionals in their field, many of them still performing and touring in projects themselves. Chris still performs and choreographs, but he also teaches elsewhere because he is an outstanding professional and his work is highly sought after nationwide.”
He added, “Many of the other projects Chris works on are motivated towards boys and young men, and there is such a demand for male dancers in the contemporary dance industry right now. We are privileged at The Box Studios to have such an inspirational dance teacher who is renowned for his pioneering work, and he has succeeded in attracting many more boys to our Milton Keynes classes.”
Chris has been teaching dance for over a decade, and has delivered regular classes for esteemed dance institutions such as The Place and Centres for Advanced Training in London and the East Midlands. He also has extensive experience in educational outreach in schools and the community, as he has delivered sessions with many of the professional companies he has toured and performed with.
With a string of revered contemporary dance companies littering his CV, such as Springs Dance Company, Parlor Dance, Mobius Dance Theatre and State of Emergency, Chris Bradley is a theatrical veteran and brings his extensive professional experience to every single class at The Box Studios.
Chris Bradley said, “I have been teaching dance for over 10 years, and although there has been a steady increase of interest from boys and young men, there is always room for more. I always do my best to break the stereotype of dance being ‘just for girls’ or a ‘girly activity’ which it is still perceived as by many parents. Dance – especially contemporary dance - is as much about strength and power as it is about poise and grace, and I’m thrilled to champion male dance every single day in my work.”
Arts1 School of Performance at The Box Studios offers dance classes for all ages in ballet, jazz, modern, street, contemporary, tap and choreography and improvisation.
