French lubricant and vehicle care specialist MOTUL expands range to include bicycle products
Cologne – March 2023. MOTUL is now using its high level of expertise in the vehicle care and lubricant sector to enter the bicycle market for the first time with eight new consumer products. The top-quality products score highly in a total of five functional areas – degreasing, cleaning, lubrication, puncture protection and tubeless setup – thanks to their partly unique properties. For example, two different chain lubricants use innovative ester technology, originally developed for motor sports, to guarantee exceptionally long-lasting lubrication with a particularly stable molecular structure. In addition, all lubricants, cleaning products, and puncture repair kits are biodegradable and do not contain any environmentally harmful aerosols or labelled hazardous substances. The user-friendly plastic bottles and atomisers are made from recycled materials and are also fully recyclable after use.
For decades, MOTUL lubricants and vehicle care products have been regarded as the ultimate, not only by the world’s most successful motorsport teams, but also in the workshop sector and by discerning car and motorbike owners. In short, MOTUL products stand for high performance and reliability even under extreme conditions. The company is now starting a new chapter with the market launch of its bicycle care products, focusing on the topics of sustainability and environmental compatibility.
“Our new bicycle care products are the logical consequence of 170 years of work in the car and motorbike sector. Outstanding customer feedback and positive experiences with our motorbike care products have now inspired us to develop products for the bicycle sector,” says Mark Grunert, Head of Marketing at MOTUL Germany.
Always staying one step ahead of the competition has long been in MOTUL’s DNA. With eight new products in a total of four areas of use, the lubricant and vehicle care specialist is now also meeting this demand in the bicycle sector.

Lubrication
MOTUL relied fully on its experience gained from the motorsport sector when developing two new chain lubricants. Cyclists can now also benefit from the excellent properties of the innovative ester technology used in the products which guarantees reliable lubrication under extreme motorsport conditions. MOTUL Chain Lube Dry and Chain Lube Wet provide the best possible protection against wear for the heavily loaded components of the drive on mountain bikes, racing bikes, and especially e-bikes. Both lubricants are available in 100ml bottles for €10.90 RRP each. Another new multipurpose lubricant pump spray, MOTUL EZ Lube (pronounced Easy Lube), provides general lubrication for a wide range of components and also offers corrosion protection for screws and bolts, for example. The price for 300ml is €11.90 (RRP).

Degreasing
Regular cleaning of the wear parts is equally as important as the correct lubrication. The lifespan of the parts is significantly shortened by dirt and the resulting wear since every particle of dirt acts like sandpaper in the long run. MOTUL now offers two new products for reliable cleaning. One is the reliable chain cleaner, MOTUL Chain Clean, priced at €11.90 (RRP) for a 500ml bottle. This product also increases the adhesion for continued lubrication. On the other hand, the MOTUL Break Clean costs €9.90 per 300ml (RRP) and reliably frees the brake pads and brake discs from dirt, deposits, and material residues. This restores braking performance and prevents any unpleasant squeaking. The special feature of MOTUL Brake Clean is that it does not contain any propellants or aerosols. This makes the product as economical as twice the amount of conventional brake cleaner, where a good half of the contents consists of propellants and volatile organic compounds.
Cleaning
Alongside the regular cleaning of wear parts, it’s just as important to clean the remaining components to ensure long-lasting riding pleasure. MOTUL once again impresses here with two new products. The first is MOTUL Dry Clean, which cleans completely without water – perfect for when you’re at home or whenever water is unavailable. MOTUL Dry Clean also forms a water-repellent protective layer and is therefore ideal for all bikes that are left outside unprotected after use. The 500ml pump spray bottle MOTUL Dry Clean is on sale for €14.90 (RRP).
In contrast, MOTUL Frame Clean costs €10.90 for a 500ml bottle (RRP) and protects surfaces such as paint, metal, and carbon while reliably removing any stubborn dirt from them.
Puncture Protection & Tubeless Setup
Fitting tubeless systems becomes incredibly easy with the new MOTUL Tubeless Tyre Sealant. It also removes the need to worry about getting a puncture on tyres with or without a tube. The viscous but highly penetrative sealant fills small to medium-sized holes as soon as they appear. The tubeless sealant is priced at €23.90 for a 500ml bottle.
Focus on Sustainability and User-Friendliness
In addition to a high utility value, the sustainability of the products was particularly important to MOTUL engineers during development. “When it comes to user-friendliness and performance, we make no compromises with our bicycle products either. But we have gone one step further. As one of the world’s largest producers of lubricant and vehicle care products, we take our responsibility for the environment very seriously. Recyclable packaging, the absence of propellants in spray products, and the biodegradability of the fluids and greases used were the main focus for our bicycle products from the very beginning,” says Armin Bolch, Managing Director of MOTUL Germany.
All eight products – two cleaning and degreasing sprays each, two chain lubricants, a multipurpose oil for the drive, bearings, and Bowden cables, and a tubeless sealant - will go on sale from 10 March 2023 and be available to purchase either online or from bicycle shops.
