Elisa brings 4G speeds to over 100 cities

Finns want even faster mobile connections. As the market leader in mobile broadband, Elisa brings 4G speeds to its 3G network, which already offers the widest coverage in Finland. Elisa’s 4G connections will be available in 100 cities at the end of the year. 4G takes wireless operation to a new level and enables even faster mobile broadband, speeding up surfing the net with laptops, for instance.

The use of mobile broadband has increased significantly in Finland, and there are already over one million active data user in Elisa’s network. Elisa’s customers can now also take advantage of the new fast 4G connections as Elisa brings 4G speeds to its 3G network. The speed can be multiplied, increasing usability and enabling whole new services to be developed and used.

“Mobile broadband has quickly become commonplace, prices are inexpensive and wireless internet access is available nearly everywhere in Finland. However over third of Finns want even faster connections nationwide. Mobile and remote work is increasingly common, and applications like video conferencing as well as cloud services require more and more bandwidth. Our answer to this need is to update our 3G network with 4G speeds,” says Veli-Matti Mattila, CEO at Elisa.

4G speeds are available in over 100 cities at the end of the year. Availability, speeds and the selection of terminal devices grow further in 2012.

“At the moment, 4G speeds are available in laptops using the Huawei E398 network dongle, which always uses the fastest connection everywhere in Elisa’s network. At the beginning of next year, we are expecting 4G tablet devices and smart phones to enter the market,” says Henri Korpi Executive Vice President at Elisa. 

4G in brief:
4G, or the 4th generation of mobile technology, is the successor to the currently widely used 3G technology. Elisa’s 4G subscriptions can utilise the LTE and HSDPA+ Dual Carrier technologies in addition to the 3G technologies.
