Startup-ecosystem supports rebuilding Ukraine by offering tools for innovations for enterprises with Ukrainian background

StartUp ecosystem in Finland, Baltics and Ukraine have embarked on a joint program which aims to support the rebuilding, defense and better future for youth already during the ongoing war. Ukrainian Future business incubator is organizing a pitching competition for StartUps in May-June, targeted at promising startups with Ukrainian background seeking for innovations in the defense & cyber security, food & agriculture, infrastructure, energy as well as the health sector. A Mentorship program will be part of the competition where the best startups receive mentoring provided by experienced entrepreneurs and business leaders from Finland, Baltics and Ukraine. The winners of the pitching competition will get a grant of the value of 10.000 euros sponsored by the consulting company Greenstep.  In addition, many cooperation partners are offering their services pro bono, accelerating the growth of Ukrainian startups for a total value of over 30.000 euros.

Empowering Future Entrepreneurial Ukraine -program aims to both scout potential innovations for the global market as well as enhance positive faith for the future amongst the youth in Ukraine in the situation where 4.3 million children have been displaced during the first month of the war, according to the United Nations. Innovations in critical areas are now needed more than ever in Ukraine, which has been suffering from brutal invasion.  

According to Forbes an army of over 250.000 IT workers and tech entrepreneurs has taken an activist role to utilize their competencies in the information and cybersecurity war against Russia, using their mobiles and laptops as powerful weapons. The initiation of this program will provide an online platform to mobilize the talented science and tech oriented young entrepreneurial changemakers to participate in the making of a better future for Ukraine despite their location.

Vitaliy Lisovyi, CEO of Ukrainian Future Business Incubator, the party who kicked off the program, says that talented entrepreneurs get a unique opportunity to work with experienced Ukrainian and international mentors, enlarge their network, and get a rare chance to benefit from partners of high-quality professional services.

 “This program offers opportunities for startups to both stay in Ukraine contributing to defending and rebuilding of Ukraine as well as to integrate to the global startup ecosystem with access to global funding,concludes Vitaliy Lisovyi. 

Business Advisor of Ukrainian Future business incubator, Hannele Mennala explains that this program offers a concrete way to help Ukraine. 

“Solutions, contacts and knowledge generated in this program can help forward rebuilding Ukraine,  the program where Finland’s globally acclaimed education and entrepreneurial know-how should have a major role. Development of progressive innovations require diversity, entrepreneurial mindset and collaboration, so I believe that all partners will benefit from this project,says Hannele Mennala.

The other advisor for the project, Idean Oy’s Co-Founder, Mikko-Pekka Hanski views that it is essential to support Ukrainian youth who are suffering from the war.
