Maailman suurin teknologiayhtiö HP ja Meksikon hallitus kertoivat eilen, että HP toimittaa yli 8 miljoonan dollarin teknologiaratkaisut YK:n ilmastokokoukseen (COP16), joka järjestetään Meksikon Cancúnissa 29.11.–10.12.2010.

Kokousta isännöivä Meksikon hallitus perusteli HP:n valintaa yhtiön pitkäaikaisella sitoutumisella kestävään kehitykseen sekä sen kilpailukykyisellä tarjoomalla. Hallitus aikoo jatkaa HP:n toimittaman laitteiston käyttöä myös kokouksen päätyttyä.

HP toimittaa ilmastokokouksen osallistujien käyttöön muun muassa uuden HP Visual Collaboration Desktop -videoneuvotteluohjelmiston, joka tuo teräväpiirtotasoiset videoneuvottelut kaikkien ulottuville suoraan tietokoneen työpöydältä, paikasta riippumatta.

HP Selected as Technology Provider for 2010 UN Climate Change Conference

Innovative solutions drive environmental leadership at COP16

PALO ALTO, Nov. 17, 2010 – HP and the Government of Mexico today announced that HP has been selected to provide more than $8 million worth of innovative technology solutions for the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP16).

The Mexican federal government, which is the event host through the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, selected HP as the technology provider for the event given the company’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and its competitive offering.

Agreement highlights

  • The agreement includes solutions from HP’s broad portfolio including EPEAT Gold notebook and desktop PCs, ENERGY STAR® printers, data center and networking equipment, and supplies.
  • The Government of Mexico will continue to use the HP equipment after the event, which runs Nov. 29 to Dec.10 in Cancún, Mexico. The breadth of portfolio and price competitiveness of HP’s solutions and the ease with which they could be integrated into existing government IT infrastructure also were factors in the purchase decision.

HP visual collaboration

  • HP will be supplying desktop systems to deliver compelling high-definition video communications, no matter where the attendee is. These visual collaboration solutions will be available for use by participants to help reduce travel-related carbon emissions for COP16.
  • By avoiding car and air travel through the use of HP visual collaboration solutions, an estimated net emissions reduction of 226 metric tons of CO2 per solution per year can be achieved.  This includes the estimated emissions from manufacturing and usage of the visual collaboration studio, which are only a fraction of the possible emissions reductions.(1)

Commitment to environmental sustainability

  • The COP16 IT team and the Government of Mexico chose HP in part for its commitment to support environmental sustainability as a global business strategy and as a catalyst for technology innovation. HP regularly assesses and reports on its energy use and carbon footprint in its annual Global Citizenship Report. These practices help drive energy and economic efficiencies worldwide, and are expected to help reduce the carbon intensity of the COP16 event and ensure customer value.
  • HP’s overall product engineering strategy includes a focus on energy efficiency, materials innovation and design for recyclability. HP has applied the collective influence of its portfolio, operations, supply chain and partnerships to deliver low-carbon alternatives and solutions – optimizing resources, building intelligent infrastructure and driving sustainable transformation for the 98 percent of businesses outside of the IT sector.
