Kongsberg Automotive awarded contract for two new electric cars

Kongsberg, 23 April 2009 Kongsberg Automotive (KA) announced today that their automotive division will provide gearshift systems for to two new electric cars, scheduled to be released in 2011. The customer is one of the major car OEM's in the world. The three-year supply agreement includes delivery of shifters, shift cables and shift brackets, and will be assembled at KA's factories in China (Wuxi), Slovakia (Vrable) and France (Cluses). The contract value is estimated to be 4,5 million euros in sale, or approximately 40 million NOK. "KA is among the top three providers of shifters worldwide, and we are pleased to make a breakthrough in this important and growing market", says Hans Peter Havdal, President of Automotive Systems at KA. "We have now demonstrated our capability to supply alternative car platforms, and we anticipate a continuing relationship with existing customers in their development of hybrid electric vehicles. The contract has been won by working in close cooperation with our customer offering cost competitive concepts based on LCC production. KA is currently working on several projects in order to meet future vehicle demands, and consider this contract as an important step in the offering of a green portfolio".
