Geoff Holt and Harlequins rugby players join forces at Deloitte and Sailors’ Society Cycle

Inspirational sailor Geoff Holt and members of the Harlequins Rugby team will be on hand to support the upcoming Deloitte and Sailors’ Society Cycle, being held in and around Southampton on May 10.

Local sports star Geoff, known for his ‘Personal Everest’ of achieving a solo round-UK voyage, despite severe physical disability, will present the prize to the highest fundraiser at the event, which starts and finishes at Mayflower Park, Southampton.

Sailors’ Society Event Fundraiser Vicky Macleod is delighted Geoff is on board and said: “It’s a privilege to welcome Geoff to our event. He is a great inspiration and after his round-UK voyage and current preparations for his transatlantic adventure, he will know a little about the isolation and loneliness seafarers go through.”

“He is a great supporter of many local good causes and the Sailors’ Society is exceptionally pleased that he has chosen to dedicate his time to help international seafarers, whose lives will be made all the better thanks to this event.”

Members of the Harlequins Rugby team will also be attending the charity cycle and will encourage supporters and family members to dig deep for a grand prize draw happening on the day. Members of the play-off placed side will also be on hand to sign autographs and for photo opportunities with fans.

All money raised will go to Southampton-based Sailors’ Society. The charity helps seafarers and their families throughout the world. Seafaring is a dangerous and lonely occupation and the Society seeks to help whenever and wherever needed. Most seafarers’ contracts are for nine months or more and there is increased anxiety about job security and piracy. Chaplains help to alleviate these worries where possible.
